Pros
  • The IPS panel is great for vibrant colors and better viewing angles
  • Incredible value for the price you're getting this monitor at
  • High quality ~4ms input lag
  • 1ms response time
  • G-Sync/FreeSync compatible
  • Large 27" screen size
Cons
  • Not as fast as a VA panel in terms of response times
  • It has some IPS glow

The LG 27GL83A is one of the best monitors for League of Legends, one that has amazing value for the price you are getting it at.

It includes one of the fastest IPS panels and a great motion-blur-free experience.

Considering that it is an IPS panel, the screen showcases more radiant colors, and the viewing angles are much better than VA panels.

At the same time, IPS panels aren't as fast in comparison to VA panels, so in terms of response times, IPS is slightly slower, especially at this price point.

It comes in a 27" screen size, which may be a little big for League of Legends but is the best screen size for general use. (You can also just play League on 1920x1080 if full-screen is too big for you).

Additionally, you can game at a crisp 1440p resolution if you want a higher-quality graphic experience.

The input lag of this monitor is ~4ms which is the standard for high-quality gaming monitors.

It includes the general 1ms response time and is G-Sync/FreeSync compatible, which means no screen tearing.

The downside to this monitor is that it has some IPS glow, which means you can notice a glow that seeps out the corners when watching dark scenes in a dark-lit room.

2. Alienware AW2720HF 27" 240Hz Gaming Monitor

Pros
  • Low blue light filter so you can game for hours
  • IPS panel that is as fast as a TN panel (with better, more vibrant colors)
  • Extremely fast ~2ms input lag
  • 1ms response time
  • Overkill 240Hz (premium feature)
Cons
  • Low pixel density

The Alienware AW2720HF 27" 240Hz Gaming Monitor is a high-quality display that offers crisp and vibrant visuals for gaming.

The monitor also provides a 240Hz refresh rate, which is ideal for gaming and ensures fast-paced action never gets in the way of victory.

For League of Legends, 240Hz may be overkill, and the difference may be unnoticeable. Regardless, it is faster than other 144Hz and can be used for other games, such as FPS games.

With a 1ms response time and 2540 x 1440 resolution, this monitor is built to work with all the latest graphics cards and provide a good, vibrant color profile.

The input lag on this monitor is ~2ms, which is 2ms faster than most monitors on this list...

Albeit it is a minor difference that you won't notice (but hey, every millisecond counts, right?)

Overall, the Alienware AW2720HF is a great overall gaming monitor; but for League of Legends, it may be overkill.

It would be best to grab this monitor if you have funds to spare and if you plan to use it with games that need more resource-heavy graphics...

So you can take full advantage of its ultra-fast 240 Hz refresh rate!

You have funds to spare, and if you plan to use it with games that need more resource-heavy graphics...

Pros
  • Fast 144Hz refresh rate
  • ~4ms response time (that you won't notice)
  • 27" curved shape for better ergonomics
  • Great contrast for deep black areas
  • MPRT for reduced ghosting
Cons
  • Noticeable ghosting during fast, dark places on the screen

The Dell S2721HGF 27" G-Sync/FreeSync compatible gaming monitor that you can get at a very reasonable price!

Right off the bat, the monitors exclude screen-tearing and have MBR technology (motion blur reduction) which helps when you're moving around sporadically (and fast) in-game.

It features an ultra-wide curved screen, which allows you to see more of your game world at once without having to scroll or use a mouse.

It comes with a low input lag of about ~4ms, which means you will have no noticeable differences between your inputs to the screen.

In addition to the reduced input lag is MPRT which stands for "Moving Picture Response Time." This is a feature that significantly reduces ghosting.

The downside to this monitor is that it has noticeable ghosting looking at fast-moving objects during darker scenes.

If you are sensitive to ghosting, you will be able to notice it - but if you don't know what ghosting is or haven't experienced it, you will be able to tolerate it.

4. Acer Predator XB241H 24" 144Hz Gaming Monitor

Pros
  • ~4ms input lag (not noticeable)
  • 1ms response time
  • Fast 144Hz refresh rate (can be overclocked to 170Hz)
  • GSync/FreeSync compatibility
  • Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB) technlogy
Cons
  • Small screen size for its price point (it's possible to get 27")
  • Now that GSync is compatible with AMD cards, you are paying a premium price

Let's be honest, if you don't know who Faker is, you are probably new to the game or have been living under a rock when it comes to League of Legends news.

Faker is hailed as the best player in League of Legends, and the monitor he uses daily is the ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A.

But that isn't the only reason why it's ranked number one...

The ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A has a fast 144Hz refresh rate (overclockable to 170Hz if you want to be faster), 1ms response time, and ~4ms input lag; which is the standard for a high-quality gaming monitor.

Additionally, it supports VESA wall mounts, so if you want to chuck this bad boy on a monitor mount, you can do so.

When the Acer Predator XB241H first came out, the price point was solid. You were able to use G-Sync (at the time, not compatible with AMD GPUs), which was why it's priced so high.

But now that G-Sync is compatible with AMD cards, the value of this monitor does go down, and newer monitors (with bigger screens) can be bought at this price point.

Overall, for League of Legends, this is a monitor that will give you 0 screen tearing and stuttering and a high and stable FPS.

5. BenQ ZOWIE XL2430 24" 144Hz Gaming Monitor

Pros
  • Fast 144Hz fast refresh rate
  • Black eQualizer to help see dark areas
  • Adjustable settings for games with low gamma or brightness
  • 1ms response time for quick reactions
  • Great viewing angles
Cons
  • The newer models that Zowie has produced include DyAc, which helps reduce motion blur.

The BenQ ZOWIE XL2430 24" 144Hz monitor is a high-end gaming monitor.

It is known for its fast refresh rate and 1ms response time.

It offers excellent color quality, optimal viewing angles, and a superb refresh rate.

Although this monitor was made for gaming, it also has many other features that make using it even more accessible and straightforward.

The monitor has a TN panel that delivers a crisp image with deep blacks, but it can be difficult to see in dark environments because of the TN's narrow viewing angles.

Although this is addressed by their black eQualizer technology, which is designed to help see darker environments.

The monitor also has many customizable settings for those who are looking to personalize their gaming experience.

The downside to this monitor is that it doesn't have the greatest color profile. This is due to it being a TN panel that values performance over color quality.

Although it's not bad to look at, if you want more vibrant and eye-popping colors to show up on your screen, consider spending a little bit more on a better TN panel or grab an ultra-fast IPS panel.

Overall this is a very budget-friendly monitor you can grab for <$200 and is the perfect upgrade if you currently only have a regular 60Hz monitor.

6. ASUS VG248QE 24" 144Hz Gaming Monitor

Best Gaming Monitor Used By TSM

Pros
  • Fast 144Hz refresh rate
  • Great budget-friendly alternative
  • ~5ms input lag (which is low)
  • Built-in speakers
  • Great array of speakers
  • Ultra-fast TN panel
Cons
  • No G-Sync/FreeSync compatibility
  • HDMI doesn't support 120Hz+
  • You need to fiddle around with the image settings to find a good color profile

The ASUS VG248QE 24" 144Hz Gaming Monitor is a very popular 1080p, 144Hz gaming monitor that has been around for a while.

It is a 24-inch monitor that includes a 144Hz refresh rate with only ~5ms of input lag.

From a gamer's perspective, that is excellent performance and great for a game like League of Legends.

The monitor uses a TN panel which means it has a great response time, but it has lowered viewing angles and color quality.

The VG24QE also has a 1ms response time which means extremely minimal ghosting and trailing rapidly moving objects.

Additionally, you also have built-in speakers, which is a bonus and save you money and time buying external speakers.

The downside to this monitor is the age. At the time of its release, it was a great deal priced around $270+.

At this price point, you can find monitors that include G-Sync/FreeSync if that's your preference.

But if you're not at the liberty of spending upwards of $300+, this is a very decent performing monitor that will bode well with a game like League of Legends.

7. ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A 27" 170Hz Gaming Monitor

Pros
  • Great colors
  • Excellent contrast as well as brightness
  • Excellent color reproduction
  • Easy to setup
  • No dead pixels
  • Great screen size and resolution
  • Fast 1ms response time
Cons
  • Quite expensive
  • No height adjustment or swivel (stock)

Let's be honest, if you don't know who Faker is, you are probably new to the game or have been living under a rock when it comes to League of Legends news.

Faker is hailed as the best player in League of Legends, and the monitor he uses daily is the ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A.

But that isn't the only reason why it's ranked number one...

The ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A has a great refresh rate (up to 170Hz with AMD FreeSync Enabled), 1ms response time, and a 27" monitor resolution.

Additionally, it supports VESA wall mounts, so if you want to chuck this bad boy on a monitor mount, you can do so.

Anyone wanting to do intense gaming or competitive online gaming would benefit from this purchase, as long as they're willing to pay its price tag of $599-$749 as it's not in the cheap range for monitors.

It's similar to other high refresh rate monitors as well as having comparable price tags.

The design of this ASUS TUF Gaming monitor is excellent with great ergonomics, and it comes with all cables, so you're ready to use it right out of the box.

Overall it is a monitor that you will enjoy using, especially for League of Legends...

It's fast, has a great refresh rate (higher than most on this list), has a great color profile, and works right out of the box.

8. Dell Alienware AW3420DW Curved 34" Gaming Monitor

Best Premium Gaming Monitor

Check Prices
We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.
Pros
  • IPS panel for vibrant colors (and has low input lag too)
  • Great color profile
  • G-Sync/FreeSync compatibility
  • Includes programmable RGB lighting
  • 34" curved for good ergonomics
Cons
  • Premium pricing
  • Lack of HDR support
  • A little bit choppy during fast motions

The Alienware range is one of my favorites when it comes to gaming monitors, and it's because they consistently provide quality products to suit high-performance gamers, such as myself.

The AW3420DW comes with a 34" Ultrawide 21:9 Curved IPS display with 3440x1440 (WQHD) resolution and 120Hz Refresh Rate.

The refresh rate itself is perfect for its screen size (34"), although it won't be as fast as your smaller 24" or 27" monitors, which can get up to 144Hz - 240Hz refresh rates.

The backlight is LED, and the monitor uses flicker-free technology to reduce fatigue during prolonged gaming sessions.

This screen resolution is definitely overkill for League of Legends specifically and is too big for regular play.

It would be in your best interest to only play at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 or the maximum 2560 x 1440.

The downside to this monitor is that there is some slight choppiness when it comes to swift motions.

However, for League of Legends, you will barely notice this unless you're moving your camera sporadically.

All in all, if you are looking for a premium gaming monitor for more than just League of Legends, but want one that has awesome build quality and a ton of real estate to move around with, then this is a great choice.

Buyers Guide: How To Choose The Best League Of Legends Gaming Monitor For Your Setup

how to choose the best monitor for league of legends

When it comes to gaming on League of Legends, you don't need a strong PC or a ton of money to drop on a gaming monitor.

You can run League on a potato and still dominate your opponents.

But the better your tech =, the more reliable and consistent it is, and thus it's important to know what features to look out for in a gaming monitor.

Below is a list of features we believe are the most important for choosing a quality monitor for League of Legends.

Screen Size And Resolution

Picking the correct screen size is fundamental for any gaming monitor, especially when playing League of Legends.

A larger monitor screen will give you a better gaming experience than a smaller one.

For League of Legends specifically, you may want to opt for smaller screen size.

For some gamers, the 27" screen size is too big, and you will need to move your mouse far to move your camera.

If you want to save money and still have a great gaming experience - a 24" monitor will suffice.

If you don't mind switching to a monitor with larger real estate, you will need to get used to having bigger movements when playing League.

Whether you play League of Legends or not, upgrading to a high-resolution monitor will change how your games look on your screen.

The difference between low and high resolutions is staggering when it comes down to League of Legends...

In fact, having lower quality can be distracting for gamers who are playing multiple games daily.

League of Legends by no means is a heavy-resource game. You could run the game on a potato computer if you wanted to.

So the better your resolution, the more you can appreciate the aesthetics of the game.

Refresh Rate

Refresh rates are easy to feel as it is one of the prime features that determines the amount of input lag you have.

The higher the refresh rate, the more responsive your game will be, and the lower the input lag.

When it comes to general game settings, it's always best to reduce the amount of input lag (performance) over choosing graphics.

Unless the game is designed for you to appreciate its graphics quality and environment, opting for higher performance is always better (especially for PVP or Tactical FPS games where every second counts).

For refresh rates, we would recommend a minimum of 144Hz.

Most budget gamers will have the standard 60Hz, which comes in most regular (cheaper) monitors...

So 144Hz will be an incredible upgrade, and you will feel a noticeable difference.

You can opt for the 240Hz refresh rate monitor if you have the budget for it, but it's definitely overkill for a game like League of Legends...

And you will need a graphics card to get a consistent FPS (frames per second).

So to get the best bang for your buck, a 144Hz refresh rate is the way to go - the only exception would be if you play more than just League (especially for FPS games).

Panel Type

Triple monitor setup. Best monitor for league of legends.

Panel types can be broken down into it's simplest forms:

  • * TN (Twisted Nematics): Fastest response time but the worst color profile of the 3
  • IPS (In-Plane Switching): Better colors and viewing angles, but slower response time
  • VA (Vertical Alignment): The middleman of the two. Decent response time and color profile, but if you're choosing between the 3 - TN and IPS panels are the preferred options.

Response Time / Input Lag

Response times is the delay it takes for your input to show up on your screen.

So when you right-click to auto-attack an enemy, your response time will be how fast your click responds in-game.

For the most part, decent quality gaming monitors with refresh rates of 144Hz have response times of 1ms ~ 3ms, which is ideal.

The faster your response time, the lower your input lag, and those milliseconds can be the difference between one auto-attack winning the game.

It's impossible to find a monitor with 0ms response time, so find one with the fastest response time possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I Turn On G Sync/FreeSync When Playing League Of Legends?

If you can run League of Legends on 144 FPS or higher, then yes, you should turn on these features.

NVIDIA G Sync/FreeSync will reduce screen tearing if you come across those problems.

But in terms of responsiveness and smoothness of gameplay, NVIDIA G Sync/FreeSync may be hit or miss.

For general games, I would recommend a higher FPS over the use of NVIDIA G Sync (and capping your FPS to 144 to make NVIDIA G Sync/FreeSync work).

What Gaming Monitor Does Faker Use?

Faker uses the ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A 27" 170Hz Gaming Monitor.

It is an older model of the TUF monitor series and is one of the higher-quality monitors.

However, it is a little bit pricey, you can check our quick review above.

What Monitors Are Used During LCS?

The Acer Predator XB241H 24" 144Hz is the gaming monitor used during LCS.

1920 x 1080 is the best resolution to play League of Legends because it gives enough room for your screen not to be too small...

But at the same time, it's not too big that you have to drag your mouse a long way to move your camera.

It also has great, consistent performance that is perfect for competitive leagues.

You can check our quick review above.
